DAHLIA TUBERS

FAQs

Early mornings, ocean air, quiet beauty surrounded by flowers

About Moved by Flowers

At Moved by Flowers, we grow dahlias with a quiet, intentional hand—guided by the rhythm of the seasons and a deep appreciation for beauty that feels both natural and lasting.

All of our tubers are grown here on our property in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Each one is lifted, stored, and packed by hand, selected with the same care we give to the flowers we design with. We grow all of our own stock and do not resell tubers. Tubers are sold individually.

We are drawn to varieties that feel expressive, romantic, and alive—flowers that truly move you.

Our role is to provide healthy, true-to-type tubers and thoughtful guidance. Yours is to grow them in your own space, in your own way—and to enjoy them.

  • When Your Tubers Arrive

Your tubers are individual tubers, we do not sell clumps. They will arrive in a bag filled with vermiculite or wood shavings. Each tuber is stamped with its name labeled on it.

Please open your package and take a moment to look over your tubers upon arrival. - you may/may not see a visible eye (small bump which can be hard to see) on your tuber. We check and double check that there is a viable eye on every tuber before shipping. Your tuber will sprout as it wakes up/warms up.

‍ ‍Do not let them freeze. Dahlia tubers will rot if frozen.

If something seems off, reach out within 48 hours–3 days with photos so we can help. Suzanne@MovedbyFlowers.com

After this window, care and storage naturally become the responsibility of the gardener.

    Before Planting

If you’re not planting right away:

    • Keep tubers in a cool, dark place

    • Allow for a bit of airflow (slightly open packaging)

    • Check in weekly for dryness or excess moisture. In a plastic bag, if you seal it you will retain moisture. If opened, you will lose moisture. If your tuber looks dried out, lightly mist and seal the bag. If your tuber looks wet, open the bag to let it dry out a bit.

    • Do not leave your tubers on a concrete floor. Concrete will wick moisture from your tubers.

You may also start tubers indoors in pots for an earlier start to the season.

  • ‍ ‍Planting & Growth

    • Plant after your last frost date

    • Tubers may take up to 4–6 weeks to sprout

An eye is a small bump—like on a potato—where growth begins. Not seeing a sprout right away is completely normal. If your tuber sprouts before planting, you can cut the sprout off and it will regrow.

    ‍ ‍Common Questions

    Wrinkled tubers
A bit of wrinkling is natural and does not affect viability. With that said, your tuber should feel somewhat plump and not squishy.

    Soft tubers
A slight give is normal. Tubers should not feel hollow or mushy.

    Broken sprouts
Sprouts that are broken will regrow.

    Surface mold
This can occur in transit. Gently wipe clean and allow to dry before storing or planting.

    ‍ ‍If Your Tuber Doesn’t Grow

Dahlias can be slow to wake.

    • Allow up to 6 weeks after planting

    • If needed, gently lift and inspect the tuber

If concerns remain, please reach out with photos before discarding—we’re happy to take a look with you.

  • Replacements & Refunds

If there’s an issue, please contact us with photo documentation within 5 days of receiving your order.

    When appropriate, we may offer:

    • A replacement tuber (if available)

    • A replacement tuber of a similar variety

    • Store credit or a refund

Refunds are limited to the purchase price of the tuber and do not include shipping.

‍ ‍A Note on Growing Conditions

Dahlias are living plants, and their success is shaped by climate, soil, care, and timing.

We are not able to guarantee outcomes related to:

    • Weather conditions

    • Pest damage

    • Storage after delivery

    • Plant performance

    ‍ ‍Dahlia Viruses

Even with careful practices, dahlias may carry viruses without visible symptoms.

We follow strict sanitation protocols and remove any plants that appear compromised. Still, we cannot guarantee tubers to be virus-free.

Our Promise

At Moved by Flowers, we believe flowers have the ability to shift a space, a mood, even a moment.

We grow with care and send out only what we would plant ourselves. And while we hold a high standard for what we offer, we also honor that growing is a shared experience between us and you.

If something doesn’t feel right, we’re here—quietly in the background, happy to guide you.

Thank you for letting our flowers be part of your garden.
